Holy crap!

I just bought a top round roast for a couple of recipes I'm working on...

$20.57 for 3.45 pounds of meat

Unbelievable!

Around here in Ohio the price of cc pork loins Is $1.69#. That is the cheapest I have seen in many years. The price of pork butt is still high though. Funny side note, I was looking back at an invoice from 1989 last week. On it was a note from the butcher saying they could get use cc pork loin for $2.02#.

Rouses grocery had fresh hams for 78 cents last weekend. I rarely buy a ham but I thought that was a good price.

I don't shop around much, if I want some meat I just pay what my butcher charges, I know it is top quality meat. I have never scrimped much on food; if you buy good stuff it tastes good!!! I make the wife save all that money when she shops at Kohls!  ::)  ;) Don

Well, I'm getting to ready to buy a brisket, a couple of butts, 3-4 racks of St. Louis, and a pair of chickens.  I'll be going to Sams, Restaurant Depot, and possibly, US Foods.

Hope I get good news.

I'm trying to find head-on shrimp but none of the fish mongers around here carry them.

Looking on the Web, I can get them from Louisiana but the ground shipping ($25.52) is almost as much as five pounds of 16/ 20 shrimp ($39.95)! If I opted for second/ third day air, shipping would be $42.98.

Guess I won't be using head-on shrimp for the article's photography.

Is there an Asian market near you? Just down the way we have a supermarket called Dragon Star. They have a huge variety of shrimp - head on, cleaned and everything in between. I am constantly amazed at the variety of fresh fish and seafood that is available - live lobsters, crabs, mussels, and more. I only found it by accident, but it is my favorite place to shop now and the prices are unbelievable compared t the traditional chain grocery stores.
