Hard to get good help
« Reply #-1 on: June 12, 2015, 04:06:42 PM »
Went to my local stand alone butcher today, who puts out a good product and has had good people. While perusing the meat, an old timer bellied up to the case and asked the young lady if they had any beef short ribs.

Lady:  I don't think so

Old timer:  Aren't these beef short ribs, pointing at the case?

Lady: No, those are spare ribs

Old timer:  Are you sure? The sign says beef short ribs

Lady: No those are spare ribs

Old timer:  Do you have any short ribs?

Lady:  Let me check in back

I couldn't help myself, I said sir......those are short ribs.....

I understand she may have been newer....but still kinda sad.  I have a lot of respect for the profession  :'(

That IS sad, especially since it's a place you've enjoyed and frequent.

I don't want to overgeneralize, but I have seen many more cashiers struggling to make change - even when the cash register tells them the amount - they just can't count!

Hopefully your butcher will either help the young lady learn about what she is selling or find someone else.

Kinda like when I used to go into an Auto Parts store with Pops, if the computer didn't tell em about the part they didn't have a clue, couldn't tell the difference between a water pump and a timing chain............

At our new umpteen million square foot Ingles grocery extravaganza store, I inquired if they had any spare ribs since the ones on display were all baby backs.  "Are those pork?" was the reply I got from the lady at the counter.

On a positive note:  At least they speak English!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Yesterday my wife and I went to a Taco Bell in Lake Worth FL and the counter order taker could not understand a word I was saying.  I guess I forgot to press 1 for English  ::)

Enough ain't enough and too much is just about right.
