After Giving Up.....I Got a Box!
« Reply #-1 on: October 18, 2016, 09:13:32 PM »
About a year ago this past August, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt at Serious Eats gushed about a knife he was given, and that it was the Holy Grail of knives under $150.00.  The creators of this knife started a Kickstarter project to get funding for production. My investment was $55.00 and for that I would receive a Misen knife and blade guard. This payment was sent  09/15. After 25 updates, lots of delays, more delays, I began to wonder, am I being "scammed"? This was my first venture into Kickstarter. Out of the blue 2 weeks ago I got another update, my knife has been shipped! As it turned out, no I wasn't being scammed, Josh and Omar, the creators, were making sure the production was every bit as good as the prototypes and they didn't settle for any less! It was boxed quite protectively! And is it a beauty! This is my fifth Chef knife, and this is so much more balanced than the others, and it fits like a glove in my hand. I can't wait to put it thru the tasks!  ;)

Beautiful! Big fan of Kickstarter. I supported one that in think it's on the 44th update.....
What degree edge does it have?

It's a hybrid 15 degree Pappy. So far it appears to be a steal. Feels of excellent quality, nice balance, and I could shave with it! :D

Pappy, tell me. Is this very normal to have huge delays in returning your investment? It felt ok, then hmmm, then, am i being taken? But it surely ended well.

I honestly don't know. I know they have had some scams.
Mine is a hand held charger for electronics that runs on butane. I just thought it was really cool. I love the concept of encouraging innovation with a modest investment.

Yes, it's a great concept. If all goes well, it's win win.
But it puts innovation out there that normally,  maybe we would never know about because of lack of funds.

Let us know what you think after some use.

I had read that same article on Serious Eats and debated about jumping on board for months
.  They kept sending me updates  and I almost  joined about  6 weeks ago.  Ended  up buying a  Japanese Gyuto with a Damascus blade.  Very  Purdy and  oh so sharp.
May still have to get me one of those as you can never have to many  knives.     :P

I also have a bit of a knife problem. That's a good looking blade. Interesting that it has a euro look at an Asian inspired angle. Can't wait to hear how it performs. Seems like a good deal!
