SOS Need Smoker / Cooker Ideas.
« Reply #-1 on: November 10, 2016, 07:09:48 PM »
Decided to give our nephew my Royall RG 2000 as it is the oldest and smaller of my pellet grills.

I will  be a deprived until replacement is found.
Need ideas for a replacement outdoor smoking / cooking device to play with.  Not interested in Gas or Pellet Grills.

Sorry, couldn't resist. LOL!

What's the budget? What's the need? What types of cooks do you tend to do most? Hot n fast, or low n low? Or both?

Budget would depend on the cooker but less than $3000 and cheaper is better.
The need is I need something else to play with in, as they say, My Golden Years. :)
Looking for low and slow and but not required ability to roast.

PS.  The M1 or comparable does have my interest and I would be leaning towards a wood burner.

As mentioned, the KBQ does look like another solid option.  Another option is to check your local Craigslist and see if there are any reputable builders in your area. I know I have a solid builder about 90 minutes from me. Problem is he builds strictly stickers burners. I needed something with extreme versatility.

I like the looks of the food coming off those KBQ's but I don't like the fact that it requires electricity. I like the idea of "old-school" where you just need to feed the fire! So far that M1 is drawing my attention!

No builders in my area other than Lang which I used for years and sold becasue of size.
Noting but junk on Crag List.

WOW three out of three for the KBQ.  Gene electricity is no problem for me

OK I got
M1 and the KBQ so far

Thanks all

You might also check out the Good One smoker Art! I believe Smokeasaurus did a great review on it. If I was looking at another charcoal or stick burner this would definitely be on my list.

No... charcoal/smoking wood.

Thanks much and it looks like you have done much research before purchasing the M1. :)

As cool as the KBQ looks... and as amazing as the food coming off of it looks...there were 2 caveats that kept me from considering it:

1) It's an open fire, not enclosed inside a fire box. Seems like a fair weather cooker to me...greatly affected by wind/rain.
2) From what I've read, it requires a very specific size of wood. Not sure what it was, but more than I wanted to deal with.

Just my thoughts.
