COOKED
« Reply #-1 on: January 07, 2017, 05:24:42 PM »
I don't watch TV much, except for my beloved and downtrodden Bears, and of course the Blackhawks. But not much else really. All that crap bores me! 8)  Well today I looked around on NetFlix and found the series, COOKED hosted by author Michael Pollan. Season 1 episode 1 was fantastic!  It is titled, "Fire".
And fire is what connects the first humans, the Aboriginese, and people like you and me! Fire is primal!
If you have the time, check it out. You will understand why you cook with fire when it's over. Can't wait to watch the next episode!

WOW...I wil look that up Gene.

When we started LTBBQ, one of the things that was recognized is that no matter what you family history, country of origin, language, climate NO MATTER WHAT....ALL of mankind has the commonality of cooking over an open fire as either a ceremonial, special occasion, daily sustenance....

As we all enjoy eating, and have this in common....well - it is a good thing my wife has me to cook for her. :D :D :D

Hey Gene...We have a lot of bird feeders in our yard, and the bears have destroyed them so many times this year, I talked with an N.C. Fish and Wildlife official - and I asked him..."What's the best way to keep bears out of your yard?

His response: Put up a goal post........ :D :D :D :D :D

Sorry - it is the only Chicago Bears joke I know.....I promise.... ;D ;D ;D

That is a good one for sure and very fitting for the last five years or so! Definitely this year I've gotten my fair share of ribbing. But that is part of the fun. We all live to win another day.....I hope! ???

Just finished watching part 2 of this 4 part series.
Part 2 is entitled "Water".
I urge any of you that enjoys cooking to watch this series. It takes cooking from it's primal beginings to present day. I promise, you will learn more about your primal instincts than you thought possible in an hour. And you see why our present day food trends are what they are......away from Us cooking our food.
This is a great series!

Watched the 3rd of the 4 piece series last night.  It is titled, "Air" and is every bit as good as the first two. Air is specifically about bread from it's unique origins, to sourdough, and finally to the mass produced Western-world version that shares nothing with the "bread of life" other than it's name.
As I've said earlier,  the knowledge and insight in how our cooking history came to be, in an hour show is unbelievable.

"Cooking" is a term of very poor under appreciation, isn't it? It is such a diverse collection of traditions, chemistry, physics , and skill.

Watched all 4 episodes and yes its a good series. Makes you want to make your own bread, cheese etc. Speaking of, I wish i could get some of that cheese the nun makes. I like how she proved the food inspector wrong about the wood barrel.
I get really sick of gov't, big business telling us what is good, what is bad and most just believing everything they say, because after all they are the gov't, big business, surely they must be right. People need to be more open minded and do a bit of research before making decisions.

Cheese. Hmmm who made it before say Kraft? As in the storyline, for others to cook for us there must be profit. For profit the ingredients must be cheaper or replacement ingredients we cannot pronounce. The result is something devoid of nutrition.
Take bread. Three ingredients.  In today's markets without naming brands....avg. 31 ingredients!  How can this be good for us?
