I learned of this site when looking for user reviews of pellet smokers. About 5 years ago, my step son, brother and a friend decided to form a backyard BBQ team we named Tortuga BBQ---Low and Slow. We competed in local KCBS events and continue to learn the skills and techniques of those who seem to be successful.
It wasn't until last week that I decided to get the pellet grill/smoker that I was multifunctional and could also be used in the local competitions. I had narrowed the field to Yoder YS640, Mak 1 Star and Fast Eddy PG 500.
The Fast Eddy PG 500 won! So far, I'm lovin' it. First time out of the gate, I placed 6th in Anything Butt using the PG 500. First cook ever. I also did some ribs which I thought were competition worthy. My brother and step son have Rec Tec which we know are great pellet smokers. I like the versatility of the PG 500 to direct grill, indirect smoke and also cold smoke. I know the others can do the same, but need to make modifications and purchase accessories in order to do the same thing.
Looking forward to the forum to sharpen skills and get advice.
