Hay,
I was able to scrape out one more season last year, but this ol' girl has seen her last grill session.
I love this grill. She was a big girl and could hold a good load of grillage. Her double exhaust and hefty intakes made it simple to set up an indirect cook. If I needed a little tighter sear, lower her rack and off we went with a smile. She never complained, her lid was attached and swung back without a hitch. And when it was time to get down and dirty? A pair of heavy leather gloves, a simple lift of the grate and the ashy tray lifted right out. Within minutes she was ready for anything for however long you required her.
Even with all the care in the world, living outside underneath a "roof", she slowly developed heavy rust scale. Under her, laying on the ground are silver dollar sized flakes of rusty steel. Today she's barely able to hold the charcoal, she's just not pulling her weight any longer. This week I will ceremoniously disassemble her and take her to the recyclers, so she will continue on giving to others just as she did Meathenge Labs.
A moment of silence please.
As a parting gift I seared, then cooked indirectly an assortment of pork chops/steaks last night. Mesquite as fuel, unsoaked hickory chips as flavorizers.
Rest in peace Grilly, you were the best grill ever!
