Korean BBQ Short Ribs (Gal-Bi)
« Reply #-1 on: April 21, 2013, 07:57:55 PM »
I saw short ribs cut fairly thin at Sam’s yesterday.  Last Christmas I attended a party where Korean short ribs were served as one of the many appetizers.  Since I really liked them, a lot, I thought I would give them a go on my PBC.  First up was to marinade them.  Here is the link to the recipe I used.  (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Korean-BBQ-Short-Ribs-Gal-Bi/

Several other recipes looked interesting, also, but I had the ingredients for this one.  Next time I make this I will find some Mirin (rice wine) and an Asian pear to complete one of the other recipes.

First photo shows the short ribs fresh from the marinade.  I also tossed a salt encrusted potato on the PBC with the short ribs.  I did not use a full basket of charcoal to cook this meal.  Only about half filled.

Here they are after about an hour.  Mine came out about medium rare.

Ready to be plated.

My wife loved them.  We will definitely be having these again.

We have a Filipino market nearby that has that cut of ribs in stock all the time and they are good eats.

Yours look way better than any of the ones I have done. Great job on this PBC cook.

Art I love the Korean short ribs! Your's look great.

I have always grilled them fast over high heat. Did you like the slower cook on the PBC better?

The slower cook wasn't too bad.  I debated whether to throw them on the Weber or the PBC.  I know how they would have come out on the Weber, given that they would be much closer to the coals.  I thought I need to work a little outside the box.  All-in-all, I'd do them again one the PBC.  It's kind of fun playing with the PBC.  You never know how well the PBC will work until you try it.  I need to see what I can do next on the PBC.  I'm open to suggestions.
