Advice on How to Hold PP for Dinner
« Reply #-1 on: October 17, 2013, 01:18:58 PM »
Having a family gathering this weekend and plan to serve PP smoked in my BEESR around 5 or 6.  I'll be busy on the lake all afternoon so I'm planning to have the PP done by noon.

What's the best way to hold the PP for approximately 6 hours?  Seems too long to leave in a cooler, but too short a time to cool down and heat up.

Suggestions?

This is what I would do, nothing else.... I would double wrap in foil making sure I got a good seal on both layers. Wrap in a beach towel and sit in a cambro or good insulated cooler. I bet it still comes out very close to the temp it goes in at. Just remember, it will continue to cook, so you might want to pull slightly below regular temp.

Double wrap with foil and put in a ice chest. You can lay a heating blanket on top and that will help sustain the heat over 6 hours.

I have had butts steaming hot after being in a cooler covered with a towel well over 3 hours.

The heating blanket will take on a great pulled pork smell too 8)

Thank you both for the replies.  Sounds like keeping it in the cooler will work great.  I was a bit unsure if a cooler would hold the heat that long.

Now that pork-flavored heated blanket sounds like trouble.  I'd probably wake up in the middle of the night chewing on my blanket! :-[

AM I the only one with a disgusting mind thinking how to hold your pee?  As for the pork, no issues with a faux cambro hold for 6 hours.

Good catch!  And I'm usually the one with the twisted mind thinking like that!

For that I don't use a cooler...I have a pickle bucket.   ;)

Preheat the cooler by pouring in several gallons of hot water about 30 minutes before needing it. Just pour out the water before placing the butts inside.

That is really good advice!

But won't the sound of the water pouring in cause you to have to go PP? ???

Ok back in my corner now :P

In this case, I think that the title of this thread should be modified. Although this may be important, I think that advice on how to hold your "pp" for dinner, may be awkward.

Guess, that I am feeling better today.

No offense.  ;D
