BIG Charcoal Chimney
« Reply #-1 on: March 31, 2012, 05:34:25 PM »
Went by Academy Sports to pick up a couple charcoal chimneys , one for the house & one for hunt camp.
A weber lasts 7-8 years at home, but only 2-3 @ hunt camp where we use a jet burner to light.
Picked up a weber for $15, good price, but on the shelf they had Old Country charcoal chimneys for $20.
It's big, holds 1&1/2 to 1&3/4 times the charcoal, very heavy construction, walls 3X the thickness of the weber.
It weighs a ton , the weber weighs 3 &3/4 lb & the OC weighs 12 lbs!
I bought the weber for me , better size & weight , but the Old Country fits the bill & LostArrow hunting camp.

Remember, "Only you can prevent forest fires" (but Old Country looks like it can help you start them).
Everyone is entitled to my opinion

Fired up the chimney with 20 briquittes to start my smoke, lit easily with a paraffin fire starter.

I think everyone will agree with me when I say that the chimney starter is probably the best of all BBQ accessories.....

LA, you better watch out. I was spending so much time at Academy after I retired the second time that they put me to work selling grills and camping gear. It was supposed to be just a part time job so I could get the employee discount, but has turned into a full time job running the receiving department.  For a while I was spending more money than I was making but my wife put an end to that when she reminded me how much divorce attorneys charged.

Those Old Country starters are very heavy and look good. They make some awsome heavy smokers also.
