« Reply #-1 on: January 18, 2014, 01:35:42 AM »
I'm going to do some pulled pork for the super bowl and I wanted to make some homemade rolls/buns to have it on.  I was wondering if anyone out there has a great recipie that they have used.

This is one I use quite a bit.

s Soft Sandwich Buns

Yields: 12

Ingredients

•1-1/4 cups milk
•1 egg
•2 tablespoons butter
•1/4 cup sugar
•3/4 teaspoon salt
•3-3/4 cups bread flour
•1-1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
•1 tablespoon butter

Instructions
•In bread machine pan, place the first seven ingredients in order
suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5
minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if
needed). When cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured
surface and punch down. Divide dough in half. Roll each portion to
3/4-in. thickness; cut with a 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on
lightly greased baking sheets. Brush tops with melted butter. Cover
and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Bake at
350° for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Yield: 1-1/2

You can use any bread dough for buns..I made rye buns the other day. You don't need a special pan, I just put them on a big cookies sheet on a silpat so they don't stick, parchment works too. They have to rise so don't make them too fat. hamburger buns are usually 4" buns. You can make hotdog buns too the same way. Just shape them like you want them, let them rise and bake. I do my dough in the bread machine and as soon as it gets done kneading about 20 minutes, I take it out, shape it, let it rise and then bake. Good luck.  Pam    .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

I tought that I would give these a test run before the actual superbowl.  They turned out so good and super easy.  They were pretty big so I think I will make them smaller next time.  My wife wanted to be adventurous so she added sea salt and pepper to the top of one and then garlic salt to another one.  I was pretty proud of myself.  My time management was way off though.  They weren't done until 9pm.  Had to change plans for dinner tonight.  I was going to use them for Sloppy Joes.

Here is the recipe that I used.  It really was very simple to make.  I think I might try some with cheese and jalapenos on top next time.
