Bread and my new Flour Duster
« Reply #-1 on: February 28, 2014, 03:53:44 PM »
I was having trouble getting a nice even coat of flour on my bread. I went searching on Amazon for a flour duster; when I typed it in this gadget came up. I thought that is not for flour so searched on “flour sifter”. This gadget also showed up there; after reading the review it was for flour. It said bakers swear by this for dusting flour, cornmeal or powdered sugar. I ordered one and to top it off it is made in the USA!

I am on my third batch of Artisan no knead bread in 5 now and baked a loaf this morning. I used my new duster and thought it worked great. You just squeeze to open the springs, dip in flour to fill. It said to squeeze as you wave to spread the flour. I practiced on the parchment paper and found it best to just to hold it loosely and wave it back and forth to get a light coat.

My bread turned out well and I am happy with my new gadget!

Hot fresh bread and cold butter!  I wish I could smell the fresh bread right now.

Very fun toy.   Will it work on rubs to get an even coat?

I was looking for something to shake flour on my pizza stone and pizza peel and my wife dug her old flour sifter thingy out of the cabinet. She has had it for 40 years It is made out of aluminum, about half as tall as a beer can and looks like a big salt shaker, has a handle on the side. It works real well.

I found a little powdered sugar shaker that has a mesh screen that works real good to dust my cloche and work surface and I think it was only a couple of bucks at Crate and Barrel stores, but that looks neat to.
