Chag Sameach

My Alaskan cousin's dog, Oakley, patiently waiting for someone to turn their back on the Gefilta Fish!

Hope it is a joyous Passover for everyone celebrating it, (and for anyone just celebrating tax day being over here in the States)!

My wife thinks I am crazy for eating it but I love Gefilta Fish with some horseradish. She grew up around the stuff but cannot stand it. Save some for me Kat!

You are one sick puppy, muebe (albeit with a smart wife). I'm guessing you aren't aware that gefilte fish is a mash of pulverized tilapia and ground turkey mixed with tofu as a binder.

I just looked it up and says it is made from carp, whitefish, pike or mullet and there is a version using salmon.

Despite the nasty ingredients, the main problem with gefilte fish is that it doesn't taste very good to begin with and you can't make it better.

Being a good Jewish boy, years ago I bought a bunch of them on sale (before I knew about the tilapia/ground turkey/tofu connection and thought it was just cheap protein).  I tried for months to come up with a recipe to make them edible.  Finally I admitted defeat and donated the remaining jars to the Food Bank (for the write-off and the schadenfreude).

The good news for muebe is that there will be lots of it still on the shelves and probably deeply discounted after Passover and there's no expiration date on food that bad.

Yuk! Not sure that I could eat that, but then again, luckily, I don't eat fish of any kind so no problem.
