Fog, heat PBC, Tommy
« Reply #-1 on: September 15, 2015, 03:21:53 PM »

I've read these threads about grease fog and cold burns, lighter fluid and no lighter fluid...
Then today I see where a damper isn't working properly which certainly would led to many if not all of these problems.
So if the damper has been fixed and is working properly but they are still getting the "Fog" maybe a "Tommy Vent" mod is in order.
One of the vents you made for the SRG a while back installed on the lid would allow more air flow and would be adjustable. As Muebe pointed out, the larger holes by removing the re-bar equal higher temps so it just seems that higher temps would vaporize the liquid faster reducing the fog and would speed up the slower cooks.
This might even make more cooking options for those who aren't having problems.
Of coarse it may introduce fire to the equation...

Just thinking out loud....

I really believe in venting a cooker, but you need to vent it where it's not allowing to much smoke/heat out yet not large enough to not do any good

My SRG's are vented with a 4 in on the top, this seems to be the right size for my style of cooing
My home built Pellet SRG is also vented with a 4 in vent .  If those at the 2013 gathering remember I turned it to HIGH and boy did that thing get HOT ??? ??? ???     Terry and I talked about the venting needed so when I had the chance I vented it an dang it was perfect!

Now I do not own a PBC (yet ;)  )  but venting is very important

Here is the Pellet SRG vented

I like that idea too. Is that vent a stack you made or bought? If you made it, with what? A piece of vent pipe and something to open/close it? Thanks.

The stack on the Pellet SRG is a 4 in exhaust pipe.   The top that covers the pipe is a steel plate cut to fit and spring loaded to keep it in place

You could also drill holes and make or buy one of these. Would be very easy to do.
