Quick question (wings)
« Reply #-1 on: February 25, 2016, 05:04:36 PM »
What are the pros/cons of using whole chicken wings vs. wing sections?

I'm lazy and have been doing just the sections, but I'm curious how whole wings compare.

Thanks!

I've never been a fan of whole wings.  For one thing, 1/3 of it is not edible.

Also, I buy a lot of frozen wings from Sam's, they are already sectioned.  If I buy fresh, I always separate them and toss the tips in the freezer for stock later.

I've always left mine whole. What I end up doing is trimming off the wing tip and cutting out the triangle piece of skin between the two parts

I've found the whole ones are generally a little larger. I like the whole ones myself, I think they taste a little better and stay more juicy. But I think it just all comes down to preference

We love wings?. My preference is fresh if at all possible. i think the fresh are moister than frozen tend to be. Or at least I can see them and pick the ones I want.
The cool thing with frozen is that it's easy to keep them on hand and just take out what you want.
Like BD if I have whole wings I cut off the tips for broth.
Luckily , where we live chicken is redily avaliable in any form. So it's easy to get freshly trimed  wings.
I do try to keep a bag of frozen on hand for unexpected company or the sudden need  for wings.
Kerry and I were talking yesterday when we bought legs how much of a rip off the wings are price wise though. A giant pack of legs is $6 and the same size wings are $13. Marketing, supply and demand I guess.

I made some others, lemon pepper flavor. Just simple lemon pepper spice tosses with a little bit of lemon juice. Grilled then tossed with a little more lemon juice when I took them off
