Title: Lucile & Ursula vs the fam (wife and evil daughter)
Post by: sparky on September 12, 2012, 01:28:39 AM
i wanted to prove that there was no difference in taste between Lucile and Ursula ribs.  my fam doesn't like the food from the drum that much.  i'm going to change that right now.  the food has had a funny taste from the drum.  i called the jedi master (BP) and told him what was going on.  he told me no more pellet packs or wood chunks.  he said just use lump and nothing else.  okie dokie.

i used the same rubs and the same temp in cooking the ribs on Lucile and Ursula.

Lucile rib (a) didn't have much of a smoke ring.  Ursula (b) did have one using lump only.

both ribs were very good.  so, i served my wife and the evil one from plate A and a plate B.  told them to take a bite out of one rib and then the other rib.  they both could tell that there was a difference in taste between the Lucile and Ursula but couldn't tell which rib was from who.  they both liked rib A (MAK) better the 1st serving.  the 2nd serving i switched rib A w/ rib B (the old switch o roo).  they still picked A.  hehe.  then i told them.  alright, no more comments about Ursula's food.  they said ok.  Ursula is now part of the bbq fam.

I WON.

thanks BP for saving my @$$ again.

I will toss one or two mini-splits on top of my lit charcoal when I used to use my drum. The family rebelled and I no longer have one. I know some other folks that got rid of their drums as well. Of course the Cajun chicken cooker is kinda like a drum and there is no complainin.......go figure  ???

With drum smokers some of the flavor is imported by the fat drippings burning when they hit the coals.
I grew up with the slight char flavor & prefer it, but some do not.

Oh yeah!!  I would let those young bucks know straight out I know how to shoot before they would even take a step out the door with one of LA's daughters..............wouldn't hurt to be cleaning one of your guns when suitors drop by.........
