Title: Medium Green Egg VS Large Green Egg.
Post by: Savannahsmoker on October 21, 2016, 02:23:43 PM
After helping our nephew get his inherited 20 plus years old Green Egg which is size between the current medium and the large.

I enjoyed working with his Green Egg and now that a local Egg Supplier is having an out of business 35% off sale I am seriously considering purchasing one.

For the two of us I am leaning towards the medium or less instead of the large as this will not be primary cooker.

Please let me know your ideas between the large and smaller.

Even if it's not your primary cooker, I would hands-down go with the large! An 18 inch cooking surface (large BGE) is not that big... plus there are way more accessories for the large vs the medium.

Nobody has ever said I wished I had bought the smaller one. Go with the large. :)

Thanks all so far for the comments / recommendations.!.

The only Green Egg prices I have are what I found at the dealer where I purchase part for our nephew.

1. Are these good prices?

2. How does the Green Egg prices and products compare to other ceramic smoker / grill.

I hate to rain on your parade, I think there are cheaper out there I got my Visions for less from SAM's club granted that was a year ago but it was about $100.00 cheaper quality was the same and the big difference came in the accessory pack which was only $55.00. The same stuff from BGE was close to $150.00.  A lot depends on the part of the country you are in, who knows maybe that's a good deal where you live but here in the Midwest I'm used to the BGE being a little over priced just because it's a BGE.   Good Luck! :)

To clarify things here "let me be clear"lol

This will not be used for primary smoker but more for fun and to experiment and play with.
Cooking would just be small items like a chicken, some chicken thighs or wings, a split rack
of ribs and I would think a Boston Butt.

Thanks all for the help

With that said you definitely have a lot of options.  You'll be able to fulfill your needs either at a store or online and its the end of the season so there might be some "end of the season" deals out there. Good Luck!  :)

One thing to consider is even though this grill will start out not being your "primary" cooker, the egg bug might bite you and could find yourself cooking more on it than you originally planned..........................these ceramics are so frugal on charcoal, might as well have the extra real estate................just my 2 cents

The egg bug bites pretty hard. Those prices look pretty awesome to me. I would be all over the large at that price if I didn't already have 2 large kamados.

Thanks for the info but unfortunately or fortunately depending how I look at it, those prices are long gone. :)
