Title: After looking at Wally World MB 560
Post by: TMB on May 18, 2020, 11:06:28 AM
Went to Wally World Saturday with Kimmie my eyes turned to a Masterbuilt 560 they had set up.

I'm really liking what I see and if they hold up (waiting for folks to post online ) I may just save up and get one.   It looks good from what I see, just wondering on the controller is it going to stand the test of time ??

Any thoughts from owners here?

Don't know yet. I just bought one on Monday, HD had them on sale for $400. Haven't put it together yet. Jaxon has had one for a while and I think he is pretty happy with it.

Let me know what you think of it.

Also, when your finished cooking how do you save fuel or can you??  Do you just let it burn out ?  Is there a way to snuff it out to save fuel??

there is two "slides" that you side in and it cuts off the air and kills the fire (or at least it is supposed to, haven't tried it yet)

Looks like there are metal plates you slide in and out to snuff out the fire.

I've had mine 4 months with no issues other than trouble free cookin'.

I got some good advice about saving charcoal.  If you're doing a short fast cook, like burgers or steaks, measure your charcoal out in the chimney starter - don't light it, just measure.  That way you can be pretty sure to save.  If you want to cook for hours, go ahead and fill the chute - for 6 hours at 225, maybe 3/4 full - for longer cooks, all the way to the top.
After you've done a few, you'll get the idea of how much coal to throw in.
BTW, I'm lovin' it!

BTW 2, Kimmie could cook on this grill.

I'm an owner of the 560 AND 1050. The one word of advice I have is for a lot of people is: Get the 1050. You'll have more room on the grill for those pans/food items you want to throw on at the last minute and you don't have room on the 560. It's a sturdier grill, works the same way, with a couple extra small features that aren't on the 560. A full set of second and third level racks and way more grilling area on the first level. And the controller has next to useless wifi if you happen to have an android. It's hit or miss. iphones are way more successful connecting
You'll thank me and yourself later.

Yeah but I only paid $400 for the 560 and the 1050 is at least $750. With only the 2 of us I opted to save the $350. With the other smokers I have I can always handle the overflow. For me the 560 was worth it.

That's what I'm thinking   got tomany other grills and smokers to need the larger unit

I have seen many reviews where the 1050 is a lot more stout. Yes the extra money up front stings a bit but you will have a grill that will last longer.

…………….and rexster has owned both so he has seen the difference in quality in the two models...……...

So the Masterbuilt feeds briquettes and wood chunks as needed to maintain temp?  Is that correct?  Is that a big advantage over a pellet smoker feeding pellets?  Or just a different flavor.  I'm just curious about the advantages of this type of grill over another one.

The MB does nopt feed charcoal like a pellet grill (no auger motor) it burns the coal as it goes along with a fan keeping temp and the coal feeds it's self down the shoot as it burns

Reason they call it a gravity feed grill..      I'm really wanting one

The reviews I am reading at HD and Lowes are very positive. My wife works at Wally World, so will wait for some clutz to put a small dent or scratch on the floor model, then swoop in! That will push the need/want to a "can't pass this up" status.

One thing I was wondering , was the cleanup ! is this thing a bear to clean or just a few minutes more than a pellet grill.  Im use to just cleaning a little ash and away we go.
