Title: anyone own a gravity feed smoker?
Post by: sparky on August 15, 2013, 02:01:23 PM
they burn lump or charcoal.  sounds right up my ally.  I've done a few test lately between my WSM, kettle and my mak.  doesn't look good for the pellets in my house.   :(

Off topic (sorry), but just looking at Jaxon's new/old avatar, I remember when we all thought that he was a brain doctor. Boy, were we wrong!!!

sparky, I'm sorry to say that I don't know anything about a gravity feed smoker, but I can't wait to hear the responses and learn something about it. That's what is great about this forum. Learning something new everyday and meeting new friends everyday.

I like seeing Jaxon's old avatar back again as well!

I don't know anything about gravity fed smokers either - but would enjoy learning about them.

Would love to get one, but instead I choose life (my wife would kill me before the torch hit the charcoal).  :D

Sparky, my buddy Hal has owned 2.  A Stump's Stretch (a beast of a thing), and a smaller Stump's Prince.   Both moved on when he got the Meat Monster.

They were great cookers, heavily insulated.   Ran all night on a bag of lump.     Almost "set it and forget it", but we all know you can't really do that safely.  ;)

We use for grilling a Similar System .we add wood in the box and as it got red we move it Under the meat .
so you can load the box full with wood and slowly move as you need for the grill.

F Y I,

Stumps Smokers  - http://www.stumpssmokers.com/Home.aspx - are made right here in my neighborhood, less than 3 miles from my house.

Believe it or not, I just found out a few minutes ago when I saw their website.  DANG...one of the most popular competition smokers out there and I didn't know they were right here.

I've never seriously thought about getting one since I don't compete, so I have never researched them until now...wanting to post a link for SquirtTC.

In fact, here's a video or 2 showing just how this gravity feed smoker works - http://www.stumpssmokers.com/Videos.aspx - click on the first video...up close video of exactly how it works.

Now, ED...if you're following this thread, THIS would be your most advanced smoker ever AND you could utilize your fire-makin' skills and such whilst doin' some SERIOUS smokin'.

Just sayin'...
