Time for a new contest, so let's see who can figure this one out.
I picked several of these leaves last weekend while out on a short hike. What will I make with them?
I also pulled up a small root of the same tree species to use for something else.

The first person to correctly identify:
1) The tree species,
2) What I will do with the leaves, AND
3) What I will do with the roots
will win one (1) bottle of a new secret recipe rub by Savor Spices that Teesquare is working on. But you must correctly guess ALL Three!
PLEASE - Complete guesses ONLY! Be careful to NOT give any hints if you only know part of the answer!
-
NOTE:
In order for this to work well...PLEASE ....NO partial guesses. I will delete those, so as to make it a fair contest for all... Nothing personal, and I am not trying to offend anyone by removing their post. I just want everyone to have the same chance to win...

In fact I'm going to declare a tie: Congrats Hikerman & Smoker Pete!
Smoker Pete was more accurate with what I'm doing with the root, but I had already told Tee I would accept either Root Beer or Sassafras Tea as a correct answer to the root! L.A. was also very close!
1) Tree Species: Sassafras
2) Leaves: Filé powder - to be used in gumbo
3) Root: used for Sassafras Tea and/or Root Beer.
The only thing left is for you two to to let us know how Tee's new "super-top-secret" rub is after you get it!
P.S. I'll post more details & pics of the File Powder & Sassafras Tea later.

Congrats Guys!! Crazy wife telling me those were fig leaves ;)

Well congrats to you guys! 8)
I was thinking Maple Leaves
And you were going to make Maple Syrup with the Maple Leaves
The Maple Root would be shaped into a fork to eat your Maple Syrup covered pancakes
Looks like I was way off ???
-
Thank you Cliff and Tim! Much appreciated here. I look forward to doing something special with the Super Top Secret Rub.
Mike you were not too far off ::) but even here you got me hungry!

Part of the contest entailed a small degree of reading comprehension skill ( Or sobriety... ;D) YOU said "gumbo" YOu cannot make"gumbo from sassafras. You CAN make gumbo file'. You know that L.A.! :DAlso Paul needs one for attorney fees 8)
The turtle may need to eat sassafras if it acts as a laxative for ancient reptiles..... ;D
-
the only time we need a attorney is when we go out w/ muebe. and maybe rick too. ::)
-
If my attorney shows up he will point out that the question was "What will I make with them?"
Not what will I make from them!!!
I may not be sober now :o
But I was then ::)
-
Where the He!! Is KaHona when you need him?

Leave it to to a man from the place Faulkner credited with his kaleidoscopic and effervescent - (if not vomitous ) use of the American English lexicon.....I confess that the usage of "with" vs "from" could be exchanged, and create definitional conflagration....i.e....I get your drift.. ;) :D
Therefore - I over-rule my former decision on the basis judiciary ineptitude- and find in favor of the plaintiff. Another bottle for L.A.! And...some rub as well. ;D :D
-
Thanks Cliff and Tim ... looking forward to trying the rub
