Easy or Hard
« Reply #-1 on: October 31, 2014, 02:25:42 PM »
Bought three 7-8  lb butts when I found on sale for &1.69/lb.
Planned on cooking tomorrow, but cold front coming through :o
Getting into low 30's with 15-20 mph winds!
I'm home alone this weekend & was hoping to sit on deck tending the offset & opening the 12 pack of Fat Tire I put in fridge Wednesday!
So do I use the Akorn which isn't affected by weather , but is about as boring as watching water drip  :-[
Or remember the old days, pull out my bag of tricks & cook on offset ::)

I am going down the hill to grab a WSM 18.5 for winter cooks here on the mountain. Just gonna be too darn cold for tending a fire during the winter months. I can always use the Kettle for when I want to add fuel during spring and summer.

So Smoke says:  Akorn

I have to agree with Smoke, use the Akorn and sit back and enjoy your Fat Tires.

Another Akorn vote! Why make it hard? You will keep yourself busy trying to stay warm ;D

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!   ;)

I'd take the challenging route, and enjoy the results even more.

Smoke, I have all three sections of a 18 in my shed.  They need the legs, thermo.  Stuff like that but all three sections.  Parts only cost you less than $75.  Brand new sections.  You can have it for free.  Let me know.

Offset unless you have something to actually do while cooking.  Fussing with a fire in the cold while drinking is fun.

Where's your sporting blood?  Go with the offset.  It takes fortitude and skill to cook on a stick burner in the wind  ???

My old Yoder offset was a real handful in the cold and wind but I could usually muddle through if I was hungry enough.  Looking back on that now, I think I'd just drink the beer, freeze the butts and order a pizza  ::)

I'm with Smoke, I'd light up Fat Boy.  But, given the choices available, I'd hit up the Akorn.  If I ran into trouble I could always call on my son-in-law, he cooks on a Vision.
