Will Auber PID for Bradley work for Sous Vide?
« Reply #-1 on: December 30, 2014, 06:56:05 PM »
I'll admit up front that I did not do a lot of research before posting, so if this has been answered 100 times, I beg your pardon.

I have an Auber dual probe PID that I use for by bradley smoker. I'm not sure of the auber model, but its a few years old.

Can I use this to control a crock pot for Sous Vide, or do I need, at the least, new probes that are immersible?

Thanks in advance.

In theory it should work as long as the wattage rating of the crock pot is not higher than the Auber unit can handle.  Although my memory fails me quite a bit as I become older, I seem to remember that the Auber designed for the Bradley might not be rated very high.  muebe or another member that tinkers with electronics should be along shortly  ;)

I personally would invest in an immersible probe so you need not worry each time about ruining the original Auber probe.

Depends on the amps on the cooker and which model PID you have. The newer dual model WSD-1200GPH is rated at 12 amps and the probe is water immersible. I don't believe the probes on the earlier models are immersible. If you have the old one, you can call them and see if the new probe will fit.

I went out and looked at it. All it says is Auber WS. There is no number anywhere on it. Now that I think about it, I bought it when the dual probe plug and play first came out. So it is probably 4 or 5 years old.

Then I think it is rated at 10 amps and the probes are not water immersible.

It will work if you get the immersable probe and a crock pot with 10 amps or less(1100 watts).

Write the Auberins numbers down that are in the settings before you make changes. Once you get the crock pot water up to set temp then run the auto tune. Then write the new auto tune numbers down for easy changing back and fourth between your Bradley & crockpot.

I had a Auberins PID(not the Bradley version) working for a smaller crockpot perfectly. When I moved up to a larger crockpot I fried the circuit. It could not handle the wattage.

The crock pot cannot be a digital one otherwise it will reset everytime the power is cut and returned by the controller. A simple crock pot with a regular temperature knob is the best.

And a small aquarium pump with a bubbler works great for water circulation.

It will work if you get the immersable probe and a crock pot with 10 amps or less(1100 watts).

This was the probe number and price in 2013 - (WS-SENSOR06)  = $21.50.

My Auber PID is the Bradley model and I didn't have to do the auto tune thing.  It worked perfectly set as it was.  When doing sous vide it goes to the set point temperature and doesn't deviate at all.

I had to take it apart to find the model number.

WSD-1500CPH

Third generation dual probe.

The auber website was not clear that the WS-SENSOR06 would work on the WSD-1500CPH, so I sent them an email.
