Mystery Seasonings...Ahron?
« Reply #-1 on: December 21, 2015, 05:15:19 PM »
My sister and her husband recently returned from Cape Town, South Africa.  They spent about 8 days there with a group from their church here in Georgia.

They thought of me when they went to a market and saw some BBQ spice and a rub.  I am using it tonite as I cook a couple of pork chops sous vide.

I know you've seen pics of the S V in action and have seen chops after they have been cooked, but have you seen rubs like these?

I kept thinking Ahron would be all over this since it came from Cape Town.

"Braai" is the term for barbecue over there.  This is "barbecue" salt and can be used as an enhanced salt for most things you're gonna grill.

The African Rub sure has a good aroma in the container, but I haven't tried it yet to see how it tastes.

AHRON...now, where is that guy when you need him?

just askin'...

If it is like the South African rubs I have tasted -  they like to use piri-piri peppers ( HOT!) and coriander in  lot of their seasonings.
BBQ is neither verb or noun. It is an experience.

Google Braai, there are some interesting topics and recipes. Braai seems to basically mean BBQ.
There is a recipe on instructibles that uses pineapple juice and looks pretty good. Might have to give it a try.

AHH braai Is like grilling on open fire .
it is a social gathering ,the main aim is to drink .
what do we drink ? for the faint heart they will have beer . for the serious drinkers , brandy and coca cola .
Boer is a Afrikaans word for "farmer."  this is a standup comic on Braai .
there are few words in Afrikaans but you will get the point .
