Gateway Drum Smokers
« Reply #-1 on: April 10, 2016, 06:32:19 PM »
Have any of you guys heard of this smoker before?  We have a new store in town that sells different grills and smokers and they had these on display.  I have never heard of them before but they looked pretty neat.  They are expensive though.  Here is their website.  www.gatewaydrumsmokers.com

Their brochure claims chicken in 30 minutes, ribs in two hours, and pork and brisket in four hours.

Those Hunsaker smokers look pretty nice as well.  About the same price as the Gateway ones.  How much better do you think these work compared to the PBC?  For the price, it seems that the PBC is still a better value.

The only advantage of gateway barrel is it's based on a 55 gallon barrel where the PBC is a 30 gallon so has larger capacity.

The vortex concept in the Hunsaker can be used in most 55 gallon barrels. The Gateway and the PBC offer the "Grease Cloud" from drippings hitting the coals below. The vortex keeps that to a minimum and can offer a good flavor profile without that heavy smoke flavor. The Hunsaker also has wheels mounted to the barrel and air adjustments are easily made. They are both nice units.  Hard to beat the price and performance of the PBC.............

While the bigger drum would allow you to cook more at one time, it makes me wonder if you would use more fuel???
