Peoria Custom Cookers - "Meat Monster"
« Reply #-1 on: December 19, 2011, 08:30:44 AM »
Quick tour of their shop in North Pekin..

Here is a custom rig he is building.   They use the same 2 fireboxes on all of their cookers.

But the main attraction is the "Meat Monster".   They had them stacked all over ready to be customized and painted.

Slightly different configurations for the fire box.   There is the standard 'side loading', and the fancy top loading.  He calls it the 'competition fire box'.

The lid is around 180 pounds, so they use this brilliant spring system to help with the lifting.

This is (WAS) their show model, all gussied up with stainless steel and all of the bling.

This is slick.  A hand crank that can lift one or both of the cooking grates.   It has a built in braking system, so you can just let go of the crank and it stays dead in place.

Everything is insulated.

Solid construction, for sure.

The stacks are on different levels, so you can tune them to control the heat in the top/bottom of the cooker.

Here is the comp fire box, with a cooking grate next to the smaller charcoal basket.

The bracket is for a rotisserie that you can mount inside right over the fire.

The spring tension is adjustable, so you can make the lid as light or as heavy as you like.

1 rack pulled out.   The clearance in this thing is amazing.

Heat deflector in place.

Now the top rack is attached to the bottom rack, so both can be yanked out.

Covering the bottom is a huge catch pan.  It slides straight out through the firebox for cleaning.  Absolutely brilliant.

There are 3 thermometers.   2 on the lid, and one in the bottom left.   That area can be used for holding meat as you can keep it cooler than the top portions.  (by tweaking the stacks)

Hal and the owner start talking $$, so I wander off a bit..

This is what they used to build.  Huge barrel cookers.  Single walled. (no insulation)

Santa Maria style BBQ pit, mounted on the front.

Warming oven!

Monster sized equipment.

Paint room.

I wish I could have gotten a picture of their plasma cutter/fab table.   They just lay a huge sheet of metal on it, program what sizes needs to be cut out, and it goes to work making a jigsaw puzzle of cuts.   Very efficient

Hey KyNola..

Time to roll for home.

Bill Cusack, the owner of PCC, is really good guy and his cookers are really top-notch in every detail.
The prices are a bit jaw-dropping, but so are the cookers when you really get up close.

No doubt, it's over the top for a backyard BBQ maniac.
But, then again, I don't have to move my bass boat or my RV when I wheel it outside...
Because... I don't have a bass boat or an RV.   ;)

That is an amazing cooker!!! Bill does great work and I love the three he built for me and a friends. In fact my pit was the very first mobile ever to have that Santa Maria Open Grill on it.

Enjoy that Monster!!!!!

WOW..talk about sticker shock..I don't cook like that any more..but I sure would like to have one of them bad boys toys. Probably wouldn't take long to pay for it either, once it's going. I have ppl begging me to make them pizzas..wonder if I could do the same with Q?  No good Q up here.  We have one place that serves Q, but he puts sauces on it, whatever kind you want, but it's not good by itself. That is the real test for me.  It has to taste good before you sauce.  Pam ★*˚°。°

What all kind of cookers did he build for you guys?

Dang, I'd love to have a Santa Maria pit up front (and some other stuff), but that's another thing I love about the basic design of the Meat Monster is the massive capacity in a small footprint (fits in my garage with all my other stuff).
