Thanksgiving Turkey...in the Pit Barrel Cooker
« Reply #-1 on: November 22, 2012, 01:26:35 PM »
It was almost a Thanksgiving party foul!!  I thought the free turkey I got was a 16 lber....but no it was a 23 and a halfer!!!! So of course I did this

But not too worry....I gotta PBC!!!

Seasoned up the bird with some EVO and Gary's Seasoning (check the sale thread for a good deal on Gary's)

I hooked the Tom real quickly and was a little concerned I didn't take the time to hook it right so I tossed in the cooking grate just in case......I kept the rebar in because the cooker works best and is designed to have the rebar in at all times.........

Will keep everyone posted:

The PBC doesn't weigh too much and it has side horse-shoe handles so it is mobile.........

Good news, the hooks would've held, but since I was rushing with the hooks I didn't want to take a chance (specially on Thanksgiving) so I put the cooking grate in...just to be sure..... ;) It would've been real purty without the grate marks but it smells awesome!!

This 24 lb Tom took exactly 5 hours in the PBC!!!
