I'm excited, new GrillGrates for my CB Urban RED
can't wait to sear somethin' on them ;)
I cut them to fit so they replace the coated cast iron grates from Char-Broil

Jack I cannot believe that it rusted through! Obviously it is not quality grade stainless steel and too thin. I am sorry that I recommended to people to get these troughs. I am going to talk to my uncle who owns a machine shop about what grade steel would suffice and how much it would cost to make one.

Would the higher humidity in Houston have a factor in the quick rusting??

Good stainless will not rust. Must be low grade stainless. Higher grade stainless would be much more expensive. I think this application might need 4/40 or something similar. My uncle is a metal guru and would know what would work best.

How often do you dump the crud out of them? I’m pretty bad about it myself and wonder if leaving them full of crud along with the high humidity we both get plays a factor.  I’m going to start trying to remember to clean them more often.

I'm like muebe I can't believe the stainless rusted out.   I have a Heatwave (same as the RED) and going on my 3rd year with the factory trough.  Now, unlike Capt and others mine does not get the use that thiers does but factory troughs started to rust out within the first year  :'(  but they are still good enough to use at this point.   I'm looking at replacing them but I don't want to spend the money yet on new ones.

Capt, what's the warranty on the stainless troughs??

Hi Captain,

I am thinking of getting some Grill Grates for my Weber Genesis and it seems they are going to be a hair too long to replace original grills...so question is what did you use to cut them?

Thanks and have a great Memorial Day.....former USMC GySgt

I have to wait for the Infrared to build up in the emitter trough over my burners to heat up my Grill Grates
as much as I love my IR RED grill, it's design is not the optimal for the Grill Grates
[/quote] Your right, infrared grills do take time to heat up the grates but I do love my infrared.

You know, you could make a cover for the burner and then using the GrillGrates they would heat up much faster

One day I may have the money to buy a Weber and try grates on it.

I kind of remember when you got the stainless steel emitters for your RED a while back, and now am confused as to what to get in the future for my 4 burner RED (originally purchased in 2008 I think). I replaced the emitters on my RED about 18 months ago. They are still holding up fair, but thought I would replace them with the stainless steel variety when they gave out. Now, what do I get---the replacement emitters from Char Broil?

My grill grates are also starting to fade somewhat. Do the grill grates fit the 4 burner RED?

They are cracking some. I usually grill most meats except chicken on the highest setting "Clean". My cleanup may be lacking. I just use a Grill Daddy when I am done for a bit, so there is some built up crud---just makes it more like a homey used grill!
