19 hours on one load of coal
« Reply #-1 on: January 25, 2014, 04:08:02 PM »
love the WSM's.  they just great cookers (for me).  this time a got 19 hours of cook time @ 230°.  off of one load of coal.  unheard of since I have been using them.  so, I fired up big nasty and darth vader for the ride.

let them come up to almost 230° then shut it down and fired up darth vader.

muebe always said if it's a butt it should have brown sticky stuff on it.  bbq savor to the rescue.  love this stuff.  layer of bbq savor and a 1/2 hour wait.  then a layer of my sweet rub.

went on at 1900 hrs.

next morning.

love my darth vader.   :-*

time to come off.

major barkage!  (yes smoke it is a word, lol).

apple juice for a 2 hour rest.

very yummy.  good color and not dry like I thought it would be.

butt came off at 1400 hrs.  19 hours total cook time @ 230° and this is what I had left.

I love my big nasty and darth.   :D

Great looking bark.  Awesome cook with one load of charcoal.  Looks like you had enough leftover to cook something else.  Great temp control.

Love  the barkage Sparky. How many lbs of Kingsford did you use to get this 19 hour burn? What really impresses me is that this is the 18.5 WSM...correct??

Wow that's all good.

Q: you added the juice to the butt then rested for two hrs?

Awesome cooking Sparky! I think the most I ever got out of my 18.5 WSM was 13 hours and that
was with 4 butts on it.  I love how easy the temp control is on the WSM's.

Looks good sparky. I was looking at one if those WSM's a couple weeks ago at Lowes. Maybe later on. Them are pricy little boogers but looks like you always put out great looking stuff out of them. I would want to go for the bigger one they sell.

Pork looks good.

I had several times cook times up to 24 hours with one load, yet. And that without changing to the dark side of the Force...  8)
