Can I assume that pic 4 could actually be one of you using the Channel-locks to remove the can?  (Sorry if that's stupid question.)

it's not stupid.  we don't learn unless we ask questions.  yes, the channel locks are for removing the can.  stupid is trying to pick up the can w/ your bare hands.   :'(  i didn't have finger prints for over 2 weeks.  you only make that mistake once.    :-[  i like starting my WSM in this fashion unless i am doing chicken then its a different set up altogether.   8)
