if i had to use only one smoker / grill what would it be?
« Reply #-1 on: June 15, 2014, 03:47:04 PM »
my 26" kettle.  don't need anything else.  if i was going to smoke on my 22 WSM it would take 15 - 18 pds of charcoal to make it smoke.

i can make this much coal last 10 - 14 hours of smoking at 250° on my 26 kettle.

and i do it like this.

and it starts w/ 10 hot coals.

loving this rub alot.  it has orange peel in it.  it has a great flavor.

everyone in the pool!

it was windy so i called the troops over to make a wind break.

love the color to it.

butt hit 203°.

pulled like butter.

son came over and took the whole thing for his dinners for a few days.  i need to move to a different state.   ???

butt cooked at 250 for over 11 hours using this method and i still have 3 - 4 hours left on my coals.

very happy w/ the results.  my 26 is a smoking / grilling machine.   8)

I would also select the 26" Weber if I owned one. Haven't bought one yet but it is on my list. The ring
Sparky is using came from his WSM, probably his 22" one.  I have the 18.5 and it works great in my Performer
if I want to do the snake method.

Use my trusty CB940X for EVERTHING.   Lucky enough to have the old SMK attachment for smoking--it will hold 225 to 250 for a good eight hours.   Have never tried longer than that, but bet would go much longer with addition of more charcoal.  Fill the attachment with UNLIT coals, put about eight or ten lighted ones on top, add smoke wood chunks and off we go.   Do have to add wood chunks about every hour for first four or five hours--try to get meat to 160 before not adding more smoking chunks.   Those old cast iron grates hold the heat so well, as well as the heavy steel construction.   Have rotisserie attachment (20# capacity motor) to do turkey, chickens, rolled roasts, whatever we can get to stay on the rod.  Also have a four burner gasser and an SRG, but keep going back to the good ole 940X.  Can't say enough good things about it.
