KyNola (Larry) and his wife Jan (of Jan's Rub fame) traditionally spend Easter weekend in New Orleans. I traditionally attend JazzFest, usually several weeks later. In 2011 JazzFest began the weekend after Easter so we decided to get together during the in-between week. Several other Bradley Forum (wasn't no LTBBQ back then) members joined us and Krewe du Smoke was born.
The calendars match up again this year and Abita Brewery tells me they've restocked so we're going to do it again. Check out this post (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=34241.msg397838#msg397838) on the Bradley forum (and be sure to follow the link to the post from the 2011 event) for more information. KyNola will probably be there on Good Friday (April 18th) and SWMBO and I should be there by the 22nd. People will wander in and out for a few days pretty much from the 18th to the 25th. You'll know a bunch of them (including Mr. & Mrs. Nepas and maybe the tenpoint5's); the rest will be new friends.
Hotel reservations are on your own. KyNola stays at the Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter. I'm cheap (and I'm there for two weeks) so I stay a few blocks away at the Country Inn on Magazine Street. As we get closer, we'll pass around some phone numbers; the first ones there generally have it all sorted out as people come in.
Good food, good friends, open containers allowed in the streets and it's in New Orleans! What's not to like?
Laissez les bon temps rouler!

You have the wheelbarrow reserved already
-
I'll stop in their warehouse (right around the corner from my hotel) and borrow a Lucky Dog cart for nepas. In New Orleans it's so much less conspicuous than a wheelbarrow.

It's a busy time of year for New Orleans, if U think you're coming book now , you can always cancel a hotel room.

We made it down there back in 2011... Good times!

Broached the subject with the Corporate Office. Initially took heavy fire. She's currently in the kitchen watching videos on things to see and do in the French Quarter. We gonna be in NOLA for Krewe de Smoke 2014!
-
Got my reservation confirmation. Will be staying at the Avenue Plaza Spa on St Charles in the Garden district Fri 4/18 - Wed 4/23 or Thursday 4/24. Was initially going for the weekend but tacked on a couple of days to meet the Turtle.

Good hotel , on the trolley line, probably won't have to drive.
Mr. John's a high end steakhouse is in the building.
Several bar within easy walking distance .
The Ave. plaza sells timeshare but low key you do not have to talk with them.

LA - You're either drunk (my first and probably most accurate guess) or you're losing it altogether (still a pretty possible likelihood). I've already made the arrangements and the cart goes to Nepas.

Better ask them for a double lucky dog cart as i think 10.5 may need it also ???

Strong possibility that Tim (T2) & Art are comimg ::)
This looks like a great Robin Hood meeting 8)
EAT , DRINK & be MERRY ;D
-
Who is playing MERRY this year?
Unless something unforeseen happens, I have been given a, can you say KITCHEN PASS, by my lovely wife to be able to attend the Krewe du Smoke 2014. For some strange reason, she actually "trusts" Tee. Hey, I'm just going along for the ride. Tee may need someone to bail him out, or keep him company in jail.

YOu may regret having written those words in a public place….. :D Yep, lock up the farm animals….We are coming ;D
-
Anybody got a list of who's gonna be there when?
-
I am thinking 18 April thru 21 April….somewhat flexible...
-
Here is what I know or at least have been told thus far. NePaS arrives 4/17 and departs 4/20. TenPoint5 arrives 4/18 and departs 4/21?, BAM1 arrives 4/18 and departs 4/24, KyNola arrives 4/18 and departs 4/24. Lost Arrow is coming down for the Good Friday-Easter weekend. That would be 4/18-4/20. Ka Honu arrives 4/22 and departs sometime in 2015.
Did I leave anyone out?
Let me urge you to make reservations now. Easter in NOLA has become a big deal.
-
We will probably arrive late 9-10ish on the 17th
-
Looks like this shindig is shaping up to be a serious PARTY
-
Tee and I have a room at the Country Inn from the 18th through the 22nd. So, it is "official"!
See everyone there!!

I've been thinking about places to suggest for eating while the group is in NOLA.
This is just a suggestion nothing is written in stone !
There is great food in many cities , but an amazing number of foods originated in the area!
I'm thinking of going to places to eat things invented here.
I'm limiting places to either walking distance from most or on the street car line so no one drives!
1) Pat O's for hurricanes , sure it's a tourist trap but it's a lot of fun!
2) Gumbo Shop ( there combo plate includes chicken & sausage gumbo, red beans& rice , & crawfish etoffee .
3) central grocery for a muffalletta
4) Pascal Manales for BBQ shrimp ( also great oyster bar ) you can try oysters Rockefeller , & oysters Bienville
5) Acme oyster house ( I like the po-boys better there than Felix's)
6) We sit behind the owner of Antoine's at Saints games & can get a room to eat there. It's classic creole but $$$ every other place I've listed is very reasonable.

Turtle, I'm still trying to work it into my schedule that hasn't been finalized yet. It will probably boil down to a day trip or 2-day trip sometime during that week. I would love to see all you guys in your true element of revelry.
-
Finally got some plane tickets. SWMBO and I should hit MSY at 10AM on Tuesday (April 22nd) and be in town by noon. I know most of the Krewe will be gone by then but whoever's still around should plan on joining us for lunch (Drago's for grilled oysters?) and then maybe happy hour at Luke (more oysters). Alternative suggestions will be entertained.
We'll be there for two weeks so anyone who can't make the Krewe party but is still thinking about a trip to NOLA keep us in mind.
-
We'll be there until Wednesday morning so we'd love to meet for lunch and/or happy hour on Tuesday.

Are us girls invited too? .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Got any suggestions for a motel/hotel..I know nothing about NO. Pammie .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

I don't know if there are any rooms left at the Country Inn, but they seemed to have the best rates around. There will be quite a few of us staying there. It's what's happening'!

KaHona suggested Luke's for happy hour
50 cent oysters & cheaper drinks, but found a pic from eating there two years ago smoked pork with a brat, pork belly , & homemade sauerkraut !

Pam, if you are serious about going to NOLA let me urge you get to looking for places to stay asap. The weekend is the weekend of Easter. Easter has become a serious big deal in NOLA so places to stay will be filling up quickly if they are not already full. I don't know a lot about places to stay outside of the French Quarter but am very familiar with places to stay in the French Quarter. If you need some help staying in the Quarter, feel free to PM me and I will help you because frankly there are some places and some sections of the Quarter where you don't want to stay and feel safe.
Certainly I will yield to the folks here who are more knowledgeable about NOLA.

Cochon is a restaurant we may want to consider. Cochon in french means PIG .
Mike MJSBBQ ate there last week & liked a lot. It's in the CBD close to the Country Inn but a mod hike from deep in the french quarter.
