Tee and I are planning our road trip to the Krewe du Smoke in NOLA next month. We are figuring on two days down and two days back for travel. This will allow us some flexibility on both ends of the trip to meet and greet some of the LTBBQ brethren. We would like to see if we can “coordinate” a lunch/dinner with some of the LTBBQ cast of characters.
We are leaving Western North Carolina on Thursday, April 17 and heading towards Huntsville, AL area (TMB/Tommy’s turf). Our return trip will start on Tuesday, April 22. Right now it will take us somewhere close to tig4942/Terry Gartman’s stomping grounds. We would like to pick up some fresh shrimp, if at all possible. Hint, hint!!
We are open to any suggestions. Let us know if we can get together on the two travel days on either end of this road trip.

Heck Gus stop over at the house, I not that far from you. Tee and Art would be near I565 so heading south would be easy

All depends on what day and time we are talking about and if I can get away from work.

You guys have totally screwed up your schedule. Tuesday, April 22nd, is SWMBO's birthday and the day we arrive in New Orleans. Lunch is a possibility; Happy Hour at Luke (3-6 PM) is mandatory. The 23rd is optional but recommended. Make it so.
-
If you are headed down I-65 you will pass about a mile from my house in Hoover. Give me holler.
-
Turtle,
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!! The problem has been solved. Tee and I will be staying on the 22nd and leaving on the 23rd. Party on!!
Art
I told my wife about your reference to SWMBO. She decided that she likes it, too.

Understand that "time is money".....So, get your wallet out. I drink doubles.... ;) ;D

Tommy, Gus and Ken:
Looks like 6 hours + - of windshield time on the first leg of our trip. We will probably leave out as soon as Art gets his hair washed, styled and blow-dried on 17 April. My guess is that we will Hit Huntsville somewhere after lunch and before happy hour, have dinner - and find a hotel for the evening, then drive on into N.O. the following day.
-
Understand that "time is money"...
I understand this to be true. Unfortunately for you, any link between your time and my money is totally specious.
-
I'm not going to walk all over Nola.
I'm going mobile on my Cooter Scooter :D
I got room in the real tree basket for 4 hurricanes. In trouble at 4.5mph :o
No wheelbarrow needed.

Hey...Turtle...It's New Orleans....maybe money can't BUY you love...but it can rent some for a while.... :D :D :D :D
-
If I was able I would grab Pappy on the way and pick y'all up ;D
-
Drew - we will call the guards at the border and tell 'em you are o.k. - and to let you in. But I am concerned that you might fall into bad company if you have Pap as your traveling companion...But, at least someone can hold the wheel while the other opens the beer.... ;D ;)
-
Pick me up buddy!
I suggest we pick up Tee on the way and break out the roadie ponys. I see a Tommy Boy road trip in our future.

Make sure you have the five-point safety harness engaged at all times. You might also want to contact the Lucky Dog people (their world HQ is on Gravier St. right around the corner from Country Inn) and see if they'll let you attach a cart so you have a chance to make enough to pay for the Hurricanes on your way to/from Pat O's.

Hey...that is a good thought...And -if they have a few Great Danes we could hook up to his "sleigh", and Rick could put on a red suit trimmed in white.....He might pull it off...

This is a question for everyone attending the Krewe du Smoke. How many wives will be attending? I need to know since I am planning something just for the ladies.

How many wives will be attending?
I'll have two but (thankfully) only one of them is mine (but we don't get there till the 22nd).

How about meeting for lunch on Monday, September 1st at Starnes (or wherever else KyNola recommends) in Paducah? Only about 500 miles for you but that's nothing compared to the 4,200+ for me.

It's getting close under 53 hours and we will be getting off work and heading South

Leaving sunday sometime, gotta get back to take daughter to airport and MIL to her radiation.

Wish I had read this earlier, I would have driven up to Gibson's. You will drive about a mile from my house if you are going down I-65 through Birmingham.
-
Ken I wish I knew you would have come up for dinner, you would have had a ball. Gus Robin and his better half (really he married UP!) ;) were there along with Albert and his better half, Kimmie and myself plus Tee and Robert (a friend of Tee's)
We ate talked and had a great time, wish Art could have made it :(
Tee even met my son the deputy ;) still think he should have put those cuffs on Tee :D :D :D
-
The trip has just started. Plenty of time and opportunities for Tee to get a set of cuffs before the end of the trip.
Tommy,
I wish I could have made the trip, too. What did everyone have to eat at Big Bob Gibson's?

Been having a blast here in the big easy and will post some photos when I get a chance. Want to thank Lost Arrow and family for their hospitality last night at their home away from home in the Garden District. Was able to spend some quality time with Tee talking Super pig strategy.

Only thing missing is the great Hubig's pies. Sadly they have no news on re building since the fire destroyed their building in July 2012 :(

As I was passing through New Orleans last Tuesday afternoon, I stopped in a bar called Luke's in the Hilton. I was sitting at the bar when in comes teesquare and his friend Rob. Then a few minutes later, the Turtle and his lovely wife, Debbie, walk in. And then Bam1 and his lovely wife appear (first time I met Bam). I was in hog heaven with all these forum celebrities around me. Well, maybe not hog heaven, but oyster on the half shell heaven. Those guys can put down the oysters. I'm thinking 8 dozen. It was the last remnants of the Krewe du Smoke. John (Lost Arrow) and KYNola and Jan had to leave NOLA a little early so I missed them and I'm sorry that I missed Nepas and 10.5 who left on the weekend. I've met John before, but I was looking forward to meeting KYNola and Jan. Maybe next trip. We had a good visit all the way through happy hour. Later in the evening, I found out that I can't play pool. Debbie and I partnered against Tim and Rob and they gave us a good beat down. Tim and Rob had to leave the next morning, but I had the opportunity to enjoy lunch with Turtle and Debbie and a few of their friends at Bayona and it was magnificent. Food perfection as it should be. Then we walked around to the French Market so Turtle could pick up his Jazz Fest passes and do a little looking and shopping. All in all, it was a wonderful visit. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to hang around so many good people. I think Tim took some pics and maybe Turtle has a few on his phone and I have a few on my phone so maybe someone will post a few in the near future. I'll post mine after next weekend when I get back home.

I would have loved to make the trip down there! Maybe next year if things settle down.
We do have long weekend trip coming up this next weekend. Going down to Mexico Beach FL for 5 days. I am afraid with all this rain the Apalach oyster bays will be closed but we will eat some good shrimp and snapper for sure.

Wow,that smoke sure is a foodie paradise, looks fantastic.
