It has been a long tradition for Mrs H and myself to go to our little get-away destination for a few days to celebrate New Years Eve. Sometimes with another couple or two, or family. The get-away town is New Glarus, WI. It's America's own little Switzerland, as the people, architecture, food, and drink are steeped in Swiss tradition. We always have a great time there, but because of the new grandbabies arrival, New Years in New Glarus wasn't possible this year. So we brought a bit of the Swiss tradition to our home for a fun and casual night around the raclette grill. It's a party meal much like the other Swiss dining treat, fondue. With raclette there is a grill top, under that a heating element, and under the element you place trays of cheese to be melted. The options are endless! This evening we had Swiss gruyere cheese, Danish fontina cheese, sliced boiled red potatoes, salami, small lobster tails, sliced baguette bread, mustard, onion, gherkins and beets. This is accompanied by much wine!
It's fun, you eat what you want, at whatever pace you want. It's a great entertaining concept because you talk as you cook your own food. It was nice this evening because life has been hectic and tonight was anything but.
Our family wishes everyone a very fun and safe New Years Eve and a New Year filled with Hope!
Peace
