I need pizza tips
« Reply #-1 on: February 26, 2020, 01:07:34 AM »
I ordered a pizza steel . It’s on the way and I’m really anticipating some pizza on the mak. I’m going to preheat the steel on grill/high Temp on the main grate . my question would be to remove or leave on the flamezone covers ? That and any other tips would be appreciated. I’ll follow up this post with some pics in a few days

Can't say how on a MAK but can tell you I used my RecTec for pizza       I used a stone not a steel but it worked good!

I preheated the stone 30 mins not removing anything and it worked fine

Never used my steel on a grill. But they do work really well in an oven.

Here is one from this forum (Pac Man): https://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?topic=23434.0

Most say either 450 or 475, FZ covers left on, preheat 30 minutes.

I've used my steel for pizza on my kamado, I've learned to try and get the steel temp to 450* when putting the skin on.  I run my kamado at 700* when doing za's so the steel goes in after the preheat and the steel does come up to temp very quick.  A laser thermometer is your friend when using a steel.
Sometimes you have to go in a circle to reach your destination.
