Now this is an old school cook. The recipe is from a old Weber pamphlet from 1972

(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/002_zps407bd60f.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/002_zps407bd60f.jpg.html)
cut a pork tenderloin into 1.5 inch chunks. The recipe called for salt and pepper and MSG. Well I am all out of MSG, so I used some Garys Sweet for Mama rub
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/003_zps5da89a94.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/003_zps5da89a94.jpg.html)
added a sliced mater
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/005_zps87ee55f9.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/005_zps87ee55f9.jpg.html)
added a slice of white onion
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/004_zpsaaabb462.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/004_zpsaaabb462.jpg.html)
added a hunk of bell pepper
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/006_zps13a14bfc.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/006_zps13a14bfc.jpg.html)
criss crossed some thick sliced bacon
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/007_zpsd1b1702d.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/007_zpsd1b1702d.jpg.html)
Wrapped em up and put a toothpick in the middle and you got your surprise packages
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/008_zpsfc28e3e3.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/008_zpsfc28e3e3.jpg.html)
set the kettle up for the classic indirect set-up
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/009_zps398e0a2c.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/009_zps398e0a2c.jpg.html)
Here we go for a retro ride

I never thought I would use the little timer that came with the Performer but it sure came in handy today. At the 40 minute mark I added some cheese and in 5 minutes they were done...uh make that 45 minutes and one second (http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/funny%20icons/icon_biggrin.gif) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/funny%20icons/icon_biggrin.gif.html)
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/011_zps9033bb68.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/011_zps9033bb68.jpg.html)
Ooooh...these look swell
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/012_zpsfee1261e.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/012_zpsfee1261e.jpg.html)
added some tater tots and I gotta tell ya, I like the flavors of 1972. 8) This recipe has stood the test of time and is worth a spin.

Those look great, and I'll bet that pamphlet is a collector's item.
MSG has been around for a long time - I remember using Accent (aka MSG) in the early 1970's to "salt" each bite of sliced roast beef. Funny thing is that we (my small circle) didn't commonly call it MSG at that time.

Smoke, that is a Beautiful thing!

You might even increase the surprise by using habaneros instead of the bell pepper in one or two of these packages... :D

We traditionally eat doughnuts filled with a bit jam, fruit preserves etc. here in Germany while carneval. At carneval events it is very popular to fill some few of these doughnuts not with jam but with mustard and distribute them with lots of the usual ones to people attending these events.
So please notice, I do not have a big mischievous streak. I'm just progressive-traditional... :D :D :D
Smoke, sorry for off topic.

Hey Smoke, I was looking for a recipe to use on my Weber & decided on this one. Even at MY elementary level it turned out very good. Deb went on and on about it the whole meal.
We will definitely keep this one on our list to serve our friends.
Prep very easy as was the cooking.
Everybody else...you really SHOULD try this.
-
Super glad ya liked it :) Did it taste like 1972? That is the date of the Weber book I got it from.

Talk about pulling an oldie out of the archives... and looks and sounds super delicious!

As they say at gieco...it's so easy, a backyard jack can do it. We cooked 4 of 'em on Friday...we're have the other 2 for lunch today.
Hard to believe they knew about wrapping with bacon way back then...I was twenty-something in '72 and already married...but I didn't know ANYTHING about grillin'.
