I purchased a bag of RO lump to try. I opened the bag.....with a scissors. The first piece on top was the size of my shoe. And then it had a ton of really small pieces that made a mess of my grill.
Not pleased with that purchase.

For my taste, KBB is fine for grilling fast. Steak., Chicken wings.
KBB is too strong IMO for smoking. I'm liking Stubbs and some hard wood chuncks for smoking. I've used Kingsford competition charcoal. It burns Hot and Fast.

For what it's worth, the SCA Steak Cooking Organization (a forum sponsor) and the Kingsford Company have teamed up and will pay most of the steak contest winners double the prize amount for winning an event for the balance of the year if using the Kingsford Professional Briquets.
Tie this in with the extra $500 dollars you can win by using the Grill Grates and a fellow can earn up to about $3500-$4000 for winning one of these cooks. That is more than what a fellow can win at most KCBS contests for a Grand Championship.
