Title: Alder Planked Steelhead Filets on the PK
Post by: hikerman on April 01, 2016, 10:22:30 PM
Got a couple nice filets of steelhead trout today. Thought they'd be nice on some alderwood planks. Soaked the planks for a few hours, and while they were soaking I mixed a bit of EVOO with some Tulocay's fish and shellfish rub, this paste was then schmeared on the filets and then refrigerated until nearly grill time. The fish took about 18 minutes and it was so sweet and juicy with a hint of alder. Plated with tater tots and my bride's fresh kale-feta salad. A most healthy and tasty Friday dinner!
Cheers! TGIF!

OHHHHH BOY! Those pictures look great. So many folks think you need cedar planks - I love Alder under my fish. Sometimes I'll slice some lemons and lay them and fresh dill between the plank and the fish. Fire and Flavor have excellent planks. You did a great job - let me know in advance next time so I can get a plane ticket!

Seeing how good that steelhead trout looked it made me go back and look at the last time I had some. This was Blackened Steelhead Trout.

Never had Steelhead, looks a lot like salmon, but now I want to try it ! !

Also, never tried alder, but will when I get my hands on some.

Looks very tasty and I do like trout.
Clue me in on steelhead trout vs rainbow trout and brown trout as I am clueless.

Art, steelhead are a species of rainbow trout that live in the sea for several years then go up mouths of the rivers to spawn. They taste similar to salmon.
