My first Weber grill and I scored on a new in the box 26 inch kettle for $175 no tax! Just had to drive hour n half to get it.
Me my boy and neighbor made it a road trip and stopped at the man store cabelas (which is way over priced) and bought some cabelas blacken seasoning which is the best in my opinion.
Looking for some advise on some needed accessories to make it a great grill/smoker.
I been looking at the slow n sear and vortex. I'm looking to grill and smoke everything so the SNS looks like something I want but need to know if it's a great wing cooker (crisp skin).
Of if I need the the vortex for that.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/77919a4cbc78b1f5bfb4bbd2cae29bba.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/65dbf70c5d1b4dc0ce843c715cb62535.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/f862615d5880d40c5fd9a4cce9c5e621.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170209/06e11d5da526948dfeb21b6f6cec72d3.jpg)

Thanks!! I bought a PBC a month or so ago and cooked three times on it and I think I got bit by the charcoal bug!!!! All I can say is the 2 electric smokers I have are getting shoved in the corner to use to stack stuff on!
When I told the ole lady I was getting another charcoal grill she said OK.
So for me it's a new tasty learning experience and I don't think there's a better place to be on to learn how to be the best with charcoal. It's cause of all of you why I have made the change and all I can say is thanks!

I got bit by the charcoal bug about 3 years ago. I get it. Just fun

I'm with you when it comes to charcoal and wood. I'm the guy who likes to poke around the fire

You got a good deal and your basic Weber kettle is a very capable cooker for almost anything. I've had my Performer (quite similar) for over ten years and I still use it with some regularity.

Do grill grates make that much of a difference? And would I use them for all my cooks?
And what brand of grates would you recommend?
-
Congrats on the deal. I just got my first Weber Kettle and will be learning how to use it too. Take a look at this link for comments about several things you might want including the Vortex and Slow n Sear.

Best thing about Grill Grates are the ease of clean up and being made of aluminum they never rust.
I have been using them on my Weber Genesis and since Grill Grates started.
That being said I not sure of the benefit on a charcoal grill.

I got mixed up. What I meant to say is cast iron grates.

You are going love the 26er. It's my daily cooker, doing everything from wings or steaks to pulled pork and chuckies.
The SnS was a good decision. I've the standard (XL was available when I bought mine) and have it set up right now for Pepper Stout Beef I'm going to be stating later tonight.
I also heartily recommend the Vortex and GrillGrates. I've got the medium Vortex and GrillGrates for the Weber 22.5. I like the flexibility of being able to move the Grates around due to the extra real estate on the 26er. Here are some wing & fried taters:

Here's a couple of Yellowfin steaks & Brussell Sprouts.
