Title: First time with VORTEX!
Post by: Smokin3d on February 19, 2017, 08:52:59 PM
First time with vortex on 26er. Done a chicken fatty, bacon wrapped hotdogs and wings all put on same time.
Everything came out good but coulda pulled a little sooner. The only thing that coulda been flipped was the fatty!
The vortex does exactly what it's intended to do!!! I just need to learn it.
As a buddy said I shoulda pulled the wings and hotdogs a beer sooner!
All in all very happy with vortex!

I've never set up my Weber with the foil on the racks with the Vortex.  It looks like everything turned out right.  What does the foil liner do?

Jaxon it caught a lot of grease!!! It's hard to tell in pics but from what I have read makes it easier for clean up and does not affect cooking which is a big plus! In bottom of pic you will see 2 pools of grease.
Don't get me wrong food was great! Just a tad over done based off my inexperience. Flavor was great thou!

Excellent first cook! I don't believe I have ever seen a chicken fattie. Did you follow a recipe? If so, would you mind posting it?

Mike I did not follow a recipe just put in what sounded good to me. Bacon chicken broccoli mushrooms and cheese. I did not use any sauce or seasoning and the taste was great!

Pam your right about the vortex I'm going to love it. All kettles need a vortex and slow n sear!
My buddy was over last night and was impressed by it and he's gonna get one for his 34 year old Weber he got for a wedding gift.

Good idea about putting foil under chicken.

Question, I take it that is I purchase any 22 or 26 inch Weber the vortex and the slow and sear will fit?

Yes art the medium vortex will fit both 22 and 26 Weber and the slow n sear regular size fits the 22 Weber and the slow n sear XL fits the 26 Weber.
Or you can get the regular slow n sear and use it in 22 or 26 Weber.

Thanks becasue we might be getting back into charcoal cooking after years of not using it.
Seventeen years ago Sweetie became very sensitive, in a negative way, to charcoal taste and flavor after her chemotherapy.
The other day she tried a neighbors piece of Char Griller chicken she liked it.

Bottom line is we will be conducting a text over a 4 day weekend at our nephews house eating cooks off of his Green Egg.
Fingers Crossed. :)

Hey Art, I've been using the medium Vortex and 22" SnS on my 26er with excellent results.  I might've gotten the 26" SnS, but it hadn't been invented at the time of my purchase.  Also 22" Plus had not been developed, so I have the open bottom and have not had any problems.

Good luck with your trial run and I hope Sweetie enjoys it, too ! ! !

What is the 22 plus?

The plus has a bottom to it as seen in picture.
The top picture is the regular SNS and bottom picture is the SNS plus.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/a14f43c1b297fac2495673966a895d61.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/f13f4fe903d7848be271940d4d1e4193.jpg)

I love the Vortex as well.  It makes great wings.  I also have the slow n sear for my 22" weber but have not used it yet.  Mine is the older version with no screen in the bottom.
