Title: MAK 1 ordered!
Post by: Preich on May 03, 2017, 07:44:26 PM
I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the MAK 1 today -- now I have to count down the days till it shows up! Any suggestions for a good first cook?

I would do a pork butt. Very forgiving and it will give the Mak a nice lo and slo cook for its first go round  8)

And I like this idea too! I guess I'll have to wrap the butt in bacon!

I was obsessing with research for months, the realized that MAK was the only brand I didn't really see anyone complaining about, and I like that it is US made.

Pig candy: two very nice words. But I've never made it, any tips on recipe/instructions?

Just coat strips of bacon in a mix of brown sugar and typically a little cayenne (to taste), cook in the MAK at 250° - 275° until done.  And be prepared to lick your fingers, 'cause you won't want to waste a thing!  ;D

P.S.  This can be a messy cook, so I'd put some foil on the drip pan for this.

Congrats on the MAK! I was in the same boat not too long ago and thought the same thing as you, no one really has anything negative to say about them, must be something to that. It is my first pellet pooper and wasn't sure what to expect really. All I have to say is that it has been one of the best purchases I have made in a while! The results continue to exceed my expectations. Congrats again and great choice!

Make 5 pounds of it.  Pig candy is like good bourbon.  Can't get enough of it.
