Title: St. Louis Spare Ribs
Post by: KJRsmoker on September 08, 2017, 07:08:47 PM
Made some spare ribs for the first time last weekend.  Bought a package at Costco that contained 3 slabs.  Cooked them just like I do the baby backs - rubbed both sides with homemade rub and on the MAK for 1 hour on smoke, then 2 more hours at 225F.  After the 3 hours, double wrapped in foil with butter, honey, and brown sugar.  Put back on the MAK at 250F for 2 more hours.  I then sauced with homemade bbq sauce and was about to put back on grill but decided they looked ready to eat.  Although they turned out very tasty, I will stick to baby back ribs.

Looking real good.

What makes you prefer back ribs to spares??   I do enjoy both however

Great looking ribs.  Costco ribs are great, I like that the membrane is already removed and they are well trimmed, ready for the rub & smoke.

I have to agree, I prefer the back ribs over the spares.  Both are good but the backs have a higher meat to bone ratio.

Great results. Funny how we all have different likes. I prefer spares by a country mile

I just like the amount of meat on the baby backs and the texture.

I also usually do back ribs, but those sure do look good, & meaty.
