It’s ridiculous how these “jobs” interfere with our Q time... arghh!!!!!  Recently told my wife that one day when I retire, I would love to have a top notch stick burner going darn near around the clock... and just cook everything on it. She said, “sounds good to me!” Man, retirement can’t come fast enough now... lol.

I will probably get to use it this weekend for first time. Just keep it simple. Maybe some chicken breasts, couple of burgers and throw on a pot of chili. After seasoning of course. I need to read how to do that as if it takes an hour I might season it while I’m mowing yard tonight. Well time to look at instructions again.

Well last night read how to season it and started it up and it went out. Per instructions I restarted it right away went up to 450 but since I didn’t take time to configure WiFi it quit again restarted and after a bit did it again. So I guess I can’t ise it until I get WiFi up.  Maybe Sunday  :(

Not sure I understand....

-You started it and it went out?
-You restarted took it up to 450° and it quit again?
-You restarted one last time and experienced the same?

When it goes out, what do you see on the controller? Is the controller losing power as in a breaker/GFIC is tripping? If not tripping a breaker/GFIC is there a message on the Pellet Boss or does it look normal (rotating through the various bits of info)? When you say it goes out, safe to assume you are completely losing your fire? If yes, have you checked the firepot to see what’s going on in there? Is it full of unburnt pellets?

Unfortunately, your description leaves me a bit confused. Would love to be of more help, but will need more info...

In the instructions it says upon first start up if it goes out start it up again. No biggie did that and it took off. I did not nhave WiFi configured but assumed I could use it still. After a while pellet boss was beeping saying something like WiFi failure, sorry didn’t write it down hit star on pellet boss brought set point back up to 450 and it took off. A few minutes later it was beeping and said the same thing. I shut it off and let it cool down. Since WiFi module is installed it must want to use WiFi but since it is not configured it must think something is wrong and go into fault mode is all I can think of. It did reach 450 twice it just wouldn’t stay there once it went into fault mode. Hopefully after I configure WiFi I can still use in manual mode.

My thoughts:

1) The first issue was probably caused because the Pellet Boss was impatient as it was waiting for pellets to be fed down the auger path... perhaps there was a timeout/shutdown.

2) The second attempt you saw the MAK ignite and cruise up to 450° then you saw a WiFi error and just shut things down after the second occurrence of this happening.

I do know that there was a glitch with the original firmware version that came with the first round of 2019 MAK’s. MAK has since fixed the issue, but it will require a firmware update if your MAK didn’t come with it.

I will say though, if you do not currently have the latest version of firmware, configuring the WiFi will help with the “glitch”...

What did you discover to be the issue?

The issue was if WiFi is in but not configured it was causing problems. Put my router code in and it didn’t save properly I called again and they stayed on phone till I had it up and running. Have to put code in then go two spaces then hit star.

Did the seasoning again got it up to 215 stayed there for a bit went up to 225 dropped to 215 that’s when wife said don’t forget we got to go to dinner tonight. Wasn’t going to let it run while I’m gone so hit the power to cool down. Got home took it apart very little ash maybe 1/2 inch a palm full of unburned  pellets. Will try again tomorrow when I get home hopefully.  It did not say there was a problem or beeped at me anyways.

Yesterday was able to do a first cook nothing special learned a few thing. Will say a mak with a temp probe was great to use still need to find my thermapen so I can test everything. But I liked the taste. Tried marinated chicken and a dry rub chicken.  Will try mak dry rub next wife wasn’t fond of it.  Chill turned out reall good.
