Not as bad as it was last week... Subzero windchills then.

So here are today's victims. A 5 pound turkey breast boulder, and some boudin. (I've got some red and white beans going in the crockpot, with a spice mix from Bootsie's)

Fire in the hole..

In we go.

Running the pit at 250*. The boudin was already cooked (poached), but I want it to pick up a nice smokey flavor. I'll go out in a hour to check it, and pry the foil off of that turkey log.
I rounded up my helper, and came back inside to warm up.

You guys got some nice looking kitties!
If your freezer ever breaks down, you could just store your meat outside on that weather...just lookin at those pictures is making this California boy shiver............
-
After an hour, the foil pops right off.

Boudin is picking up some color now. (crappy picture)

I'll give the boudin another hour, then bring it in to add to the beans I have cooking.

Looking mighty good there Squirt. HOw often do your guard cats get a "sample" of what you are cooking?

Nice!
We've had a bevvy of gray (and fake Russian Blue) critters here.
Left to right, Boris (vanished), Natasha, and my namesake Squirt The Cat (RIP).

Natasha is all grown up now.

And Katy (short for Katja), took Boris' place helping out by the grills.

(she changes color like a Chameleon)
Gracie is the boss of them all. So she thinks.

Whenever we are vacuum sealing everything, or make a sandwich. ;D

You are well trained, my friend!!

Gracie is cool.
Tobe, pic posted, was pulled from the gutter in the pouring rain when he was only a few weeks old by my youngest daughter about 10 years or so ago.

BOO-DAN!

Cooling off in the microwave (cat proof), then I'll chunk it up and toss into my bean pot.
-
I thought I saw smoke off to the west!
-
Good looking cook. I had a Russion Blue that was the best and smartest cat I ever had. I miss that old girl.
-
I haven't made boudin in a long time but it is so, so good! I might just have to make up some soon!
-
Looking really good buddy!!!
-
Hi Squirt, that Boo Dan sure looks good, I have never found any around here. I made some last year but was not that great. Great photos of your cats! I am a dog lover and not so great on cats. I think the thing I hate worse is they are so darned photogenic, seem to always take a good photo! I have trouble getting a good shot of my dog, since he is all black. They are pretty cats! Don
-
Thanks Don! We do love our furry little critters.. They are all rescues. 1 from the vet, and 2 dumped in our subdivision that made their way to our front porch.
Hmm. Looks like I didn't get a finished shot of the turkey (err, Unicorn) roast. I did slice it up last night for sammies, and it was tasty!
-
I love the pic of the snow on the cooker with the smoke coming out. The casual burger and dog at July 4th guys just don't understand.
-
Looks good Squirt!
-
Now that's the way to cook Boudin!
Do you still peel the casing off or did smoking it like that cook it enough to make it edible?

I sliced it and stirred into a pot of beans. It all promptly disintegrated. ???
Still tasty, though.
