...I try it about every year or two and am always disappointed
Isn't insanity defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? Just askin'.

Very little is as good as it used to be. I should have been born in used to be time.

Hickory Pit or Charlies?

I only wish we had that problem up my way. Not a whole lot of BBQ places to choose from. :'(

There is a BBQ joint on every block here in Houston and Houston is a pretty big town, but great BBQ is few and far between. Cuz Jack and I will keep searching for the good stuff and report back. I do remember that in the old days, BBQ was better here, but then they banned open pits and turned the BBQ world upside down. Who would have thought that government could screw up BBQ?

The government can screw up anything.........,and usually do.

I myself am a glutton for punishment Jack! I have given the Sizzler a try several times over the years expecting different :D
I love it when a terrible restaurant puts up a sign that says "Under New Management".
Should say "New People in Charge But Same Crappy Food" ;)

Don't be pickin on the Sizzler. My man Smoke only has one punch left on his Sizzler frequent diner card to earn an extra trip to the salad bar ;)

On the same note about Houston BBQ, I read that Pierson's may be re-opening.

I know the feeling Jack. At least he is actually using brisket. I was reading the story and kept expecting that the reason he didn't know the difference between the point and flat was because he was using chuck (though I do love some chopped chuck).

Hey, they got a fairly decent rib-eye and I get all the cheese toast I want :)......and my gal works the all you can eat salad bar for all its worth.......it is distressing though, when we get home and she has grub wrapped up in her purse..... :-[

You would be surprised how many people don't know what really good food is.
I went to a chain Chinese place with a buddy who was ooooooing over her food. I could barely look at it much less eat it. Over-cooked bits of mystery meat with the occasional piece of fat. I didn't give it a second chance.

I am not as good as I used to be, but I am still pretty good.

It's funny, I went to a well publicized BBQ place in the Twin Cities (I sent you a PM about this place Pappy) it even had some pictures from the Man vs. Food guy on the wall.
They had a chopped brisket sandwich on the menu - so I had to ask... well after a condescending explanation of what a brisket is... I ordered the pulled pork. My wife had the ribs and my daughter and her boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich.
The ribs looked ok - I tried a bite - I would pick Famous Dave's over these. The pulled pork was dry and almost no bark - actually none.
On the plus side - if you like sauce- they have at least a dozen different sauces you can grab and add to your meal. And this is a good idea as the meal itself has little flavor. I guess a guy should be a bit concerned when the place is more famous for sauce than BBQ.
Oh well, at least it is off the list.
