Title: Brussel Sprouts on MAK Griddle
Post by: SmokinKat on November 13, 2013, 07:06:15 PM
First time with the MAK Griddle!!  Toasted up some pecans and sliced almonds in butter while my steaks were smoking, then added the sprouts (stirring occasionally to get them evenly browned-- should have halved them!).  Finished up just as the steaks finished searing next door (I just have a half flame zone pan).

Sprinkled them with a bit of sea salt, and voila!   No arguing over having to eat our vegetables at my house!

We already love Brussels sprouts here, especially when grilled on the MAK. Boy, do I like the sound of tossing some pecans in.

Yeah, I saw some pictures you'd posted of your sprouts-- I need to get myself some of those wire skewers you had, those look great for shrimp and veggies!   Just add that to my already ridiculously long BBQ Related Christmas List....    :D

Delicious looking cook Kat! I really like my firewire skewers and they are great with all
veggies, though I haven't tried them with the sprouts.

Steaks and sprouts looks great!  I formerly detested the small bitter spheres because of the way my mother cooked them - cooked so long they turned to mush.  In the past years, I've learned to par boil them until bright green, then transfer them to an oven in a single layer seasoned with Johnny salt and butter - sometimes tossing with bacon.  They come out with firm texture, a barely discernible crunch, and really good flavor.  I'm liking the more bitter flavor as I age  ;D

Don-- I wish I knew!  I'm the little runt in the red slicker, at about age 2.  My dad (holding the leviathan) was 6' 2" tall, if that helps for size reference!  We had a set-net site in Nikiski AK, and that size of king salmon wasn't too uncommon (at least not enough to write bragging-details down on the picture!)  That one he caught by hand essentially... It had struggled free of the net as he was pulling the nets in to shore, so he jumped in real quick and snagged it before it could swim away.  (We kids, of course, thought he was magic, just pulling a fish out of nowhere like that!)   I'm hoping to do up some hard-smoked salmon like we used to cold smoke in our rickety old smoke house someday soon, and I would kill for that kinda fish connection again!!

And in defense of the greens-- I had to do SOMETHING to counteract the bacon maple cupcakes we ate for dessert!!  But keep whinin'-- next time I'll post pictures of grilled tofu along side the veg!!  Mwah ha ha...  :o

Thanks to Kat for the info on the salmon! I caught a 47 pounder while in Alaska, USAF 1967. It looks as big or bigger. I would love to go back and fish the King Salmon river in Alaska, one of the most pristine left today. Don

they look good. We do half ours when we cook them. I feel it lets more oil and spices in the sprout. they are so much better this way!
