Title: A Bittersweet Farewell to MAK 1 Star #171
Post by: TentHunteR on April 10, 2014, 09:22:56 AM
UPS pulled up last Thursday to make a delivery.

I have limited storage space, so as sad as it was and as much as I loved this grill, it was time to say goodbye to MAK 1 Star #171.

My good friend, Jason, decided to take it off my hands, so Saturday we gave it a good thorough cleaning before hauling it over to his house where he and his family will give it lots of love and attention!

What better way to say farewell than to show Jason how to use the grill and cook something special over at his house?

We stopped by the butcher and picked up the the rear half of a bone-in pork loin. I had the butcher cut the chine bone off then we finished de-boning it to separate the sirloin & tenderloin. Both got rubbed with some Maple Syrup, Little Louie's, & Red Pepper Flakes, then everything went on on the grill.

We pulled it off at an I.T. of 145° and while it rested we put on a dish of homemade sour cream & chive mash topped with some white cheddar & bacon bits.

The bones will get used later for soup.

It was like saying goodbye to an old friend, but I know it will get lots of use in its new home (plus I get to visit when I like). :)

At first, it sounded like it died a heinous death. Glad to know that old #171 has a new home and is alive and well. A testament to a well made grill!

I'm not gonna jump on the "what's in the box?" bandwagon. I'm predicting an "I got a box today" thread to be posted very soon.

Just a guess, mind you.  Cliff's new "dog house", complete with internet.

Over on Big Poppa's website he has this really cool service called white glove delivery where if you order something like a smoker it is delivered to your front door just like what is happening at Cliff's house.  The box itself looks pretty much exactly like the same boxes that were delivered to my house for both of my MAK's.

The question is, what model of MAK did Cliff get?  Given the size I'm guessing it's not the 4 Star. :)  Whatever it is, congrats on your new smoker Cliff!

Well I know it's a Mak. Don't think he would trade the 1 Star for a 2 Star. Don't think he needs a 4 star. My guess is he is getting a pre production 3 Star to test. And if so I am so damn envious I can't see straight!
