13 person dinner, what would you cook?
« Reply #-1 on: March 07, 2016, 07:26:10 AM »
Ok, so I have 13 people coming over to celebrate my Fathers B-Day, and not sure what to make to ensure I have enough.  I just picked up a 22" weber kettle, so I have:

Gas infrared grill
Big Easy SRG
Weber Kettle, slow and sear should be here tomorrow
Oven in the house

I'm thinking of doing:

6 pound Rib Roast in the oven (dads favorite cut), and then I'm thinking a chicken, 2 racks of pork ribs, and a pulled pork butt (about 6 pounds).

I have only cooked for 3 people, so I'm not really sure if that's gonna be enough, or if there are better or more efficient things to make...  I'm also not sure what would be best to cook on the kettle, I'm thinking the ribs low and slow, but I don't have much experience with the kettle, so I'm concerned about how they would turn out...

Anyway, what do you experienced cookers make when you cook for get togethers?  What types of meat do you find work best?

I think your gonna have plenty, usually  1/2 - 1 lb per person for the meat, but with all the sides, your gonna have some great leftovers. That is a good thing.  Look for sides on the forum too..some great stuff here.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Well you have to make your dad his favorite, but for crowds pulled pork is not only loved by all, but it is easy to make, and can be re-heated and used in so many ways!
Good luck with your big meal!

I would put a few minutes of lite smoke on the Rib Roast "if" your dad likes smoked meat.  Just 30 minutes of low heat smoke in the kettle will do the trick.
When I'm questioning myself on amounts which happens often.( That is why I have 4 1 gallon zip-locks full of smoked ribs in the freezer now)....
I always put on some really good sausage for a little pre-dinner snack.  Otherwise you seem to have plenty.
I like the chicken in the mix too, That is always a good idea.

Make the cook a little easier on yourself . You're planning too many items that cook different times & doneness.
If the rib roast is a given, either pork butt on kettle  or two chickens on SRG.
