On my way to purchase my first Weber charcoal grill
« Reply #-1 on: October 26, 2012, 01:09:48 PM »
I am 43 years old, and I am on my way to purchase my first Weber charcoal grill. I guess I may finally be transitioning into manhood......

Anyway, any breaking in or seasoning suggestions would be appreciated. I am getting the Weber Performer without the gas tank.  Pics to follow.

Patrick.

No seasoning or break in is necessary with a Weber! It will burn a tad bit hot until the shininess on the inside is all smoked up and I be that won't take long  :D

Smoke is right on the money!  That's an advantage of the Weber Kettles' porcelain enamel finish.

Can't wait to see you cooking on it. :)

Good choice, that is the same grill I got for my birthday a week ago. I started cooking on a Weber kettle so I went back to my roots. The Performer is a good cooking grill and I love the hinged grates and charcoal baskets that come with it.

A couple ideas.
A weber grill will burn out if coals are banked against the wall, making a charcoal fence will extend the life for decades.
A craycraft cast iron grate is thick & non stick, makes cooking seafood & veggies easier .
A 20 in round pan can make the kettle a low & slow cooker with a fuse burn.

John, describe how you are using the cake pan for a fuse burn.

The pan just serves as a heat shield between the fire & the great, the fuse burn is made by using bricks, either fireplace or regular bricks will work.
I've never done this is a kettle but have in 4 rectangular grills & works fine in every one.
