First cook on the Weber Performer
« Reply #-1 on: October 28, 2012, 07:11:27 PM »
Sirloin steaks and baked potato.

At one point I got it to about 475 degrees using mostly Kingsford blue and a little Cowboy lump.

I would like it to get hotter. Not sure if I need more charcoal or a different kind?

Thoughts?

Final product was awesome. Very juicy, with great flavor. First charcoal grill cook was a success.

You just gotta get Webers Gourmet Grilling System with the searing grate!!

http://www.amazon.com/Weber-7420-Gourmet-System-Grate/dp/B0044EG5CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351467567&sr=8-1&keywords=weber+gourmet+bbq+system

You build your charcoal under the center cast iron grate and you got some sweet sear marks!!  and the grill has heavier rods than the stock grill!!
Got Smoke?

Pappymn - Nice looking cook! I have a Weber Performer too and added these cast iron grates - http://bbq.about.com/b/2010/01/03/something-new-cast-iron-grate-for-the-weber-kettle.htm - I haven't checked the temp on the grate, but get a great sear on whatever I cook. They also have a drop in griddle and a drop in upright chicken cooker (like a beer can...) I really like the Weber with these grates. I also picked up a pizza "oven" add-on - http://www.kettlepizza.com/?gclid=CJnF6vjzp7MCFVBgMgodEz4A_A. It works GREAT! The Weber Performer is a very versatile grill, I even have a rotiserie for it. It is a workhorse.

Cheers,

David

David, your timing is awesome. I just stumbled upon that product last night. They look awesome. And I love cast iron. Going to have my family "give" this to me for Christmas.

David, about how hot do you get the Performer to cook the pizza and about how long does it take? Pizza is one thing I have never cooked on a grill and I want to try to get it down so I can cook one for my son next time he comes down.
