Cedar Planked Salmon with the Vortex
« Reply #-1 on: May 14, 2016, 07:23:59 PM »
We stopped by a seafood market today and picked up a nice filet of fresh Atlantic salmon. We also got 3 pounds
of extra-large shrimp for another meal.  The salmon was marinated for about 45 minutes with some lemon juice,
Mr. Yoshida’s, garlic pepper and pickled jalapeno slices. This was per my wife’s request.  We both really like the
flavor that the jalapenos add to the salmon.

I am using the small vortex, large side up, with a small Weber chimney of Kingsford blue. I soaked a cedar plank
for about 4 hours.  Getting it heated up on both sides.

Once the plank was ready I sprayed it with some canola oil and put the filet on to cook.  Looks like I needed to cut
the filet in half.

Salmon is done!

Plated with some boxed cheesy broccoli rice and fresh green beans cooked in the pressure cooker with bacon,
garlic and ham bouillon.

This was definitely a tasty and filling dinner.

That would be Ken's Seafood Market in Richmond Hill. It is right across from the Kroger gas station. Fairly decent selection and pricing seemed reasonable.

So Mike does the small vortex reduce charcoal consumption.
I know you showed it to me when we visited but I remember you had more Weber Cooking stuff than a Weber Outlet Store.

Yep I do have a few Weber things!  8)  The vortex is actually a 4 in 1 accessory.  You can use it indirect, high heat indirect, direct and infrared. As far as charcoal consumption I don't go as recommended and completely fill the vortex each time.  I usually only use a small Weber chimney of fully lit especially for short cooks. Once I am done, I can close down the grill and will have charcoal left for the next cook. Next time we get together I will demonstrate it for you if you would like.

I have a vortex as you know. Why did you go wide side up? I might be doing it wrong. I'm still working out the kinks
